ACCIO BOOKS

Friends, I need your help. And I’m willing to give out some BIG PRIZES in exchange.

So, about three weeks ago, I got a call from my friends at the Harry Potter Alliance. The HPA is an awesome charity organization run by Harry Potter fandom. To give you some idea of the kind of amazing work the HPA does . . . in a recent drive to raise money for Haiti, the HPA collected OVER $125,000, enough for FOUR AIRPLANES of supplies. Plane one, named Harry Potter, took off on March 10th:

Plane two, Hermione, took off on the 11th. Here are just some of the supplies she carried. ALL OF THESE supplies and planes were paid for by READERS:

So that should give you some idea of how serious the HPA is about doing good work. J.K. Rowling herself is a proud supporter.

Okay, so, the HPA called me and said, we’re doing Accio Books again this year, and we would like you to be head of Ravenclaw. Last year, Evanna Lynch (a.k.a. Luna Lovegood in the films) was the head of Ravenclaw. This year, can you do it?

And I was all . . . CAN I? Take over LUNA’S job? You just WATCH me!

Now, you’re probably asking yourself, what is ACCIO BOOKS?

Accio Books is a month-long book drive that began on March 1st and ends on March 31st (otherwise known as “March”—it just looked better with the dates in there). Each year, the drive focuses on one particular recipient for the books. This year it is the Mississippi Delta. Why the Delta? The HPA explains it all very eloquently here. And having spoken with the people there who are accepting and giving out the books—the need is dire. I’m talking about libraries that haven’t seen new books come in since the 70s. Empty shelves. A little info:

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2008 Mississippi was ranked last in median income per capita of all fifty states plus Puerto Rico. In a list of all 50 states and territories, Mississippi is ranked 50th out of 51in terms of citizens over the age of 25 who have graduated high school. The Mississippi Delta, as the poorest region within the state, and one of the poorest regions in the country, faces not only poverty, but low literacy, dilapidated public schools and falling test scores. According to Teach for America, “one-third of the population lives below the poverty line. More than one-third (and as high as 60 percent) of its residents do not hold high school diplomas or GEDs. On average, only 10 percent of low-income eighth-graders score proficient in math, and only 12.5 percent in reading, on national exams.

Those books that are just sitting around WILL make a difference.

Last year, this drive raised over 14,000 books. This year, it’s on track to donate even more. But I need your help. No, I really, really need your help. And your books. See, to spur on the donations, the HPA runs their organization LIKE HOGWARTS. So this is a HOUSE COMPETITION. And like I said, I am the Head of Ravenclaw. And right now, SLYTHERIN IS POUNDING US INTO THE GROUND. I am asking you to give books in the name of Ravenclaw.

STEP ONE: GETTING THE BOOKS

Where can you get the books?

The first place I’d suggest looking is around your house. Chances are, you have some top-quality books around that you have no plans on reading again. Other people could really use those books. Live with your parents? Bet they have some books they have read once and have no plans on reading again. I mean, how many times can you read that Nicholas Sparks book? What about those five copies of Twilight? Surely, you could live with four. Why, perhaps you have one of my books that you are finished with!

So, ransack your house. Then go and ransack your friends’ houses. I’m serious. Ask your friends to bring you a few books they no longer want. Or, just set up a box in the place where you work and have people bring in their books. Send out an email and ask people to give them to you. I’m telling you, send out the word, and in no time you can fill a bag, or a box, or even THE TRUNK OF A CAR.

Another place you can find decent books are yard sales. Or sometimes libraries sell off books for cheap. You can find surprising deals online as well. Sometimes online booksellers have massive sales on some books—so you can buy them and have them shipped directly to the Delta.

What KIND of books can you donate? You can donate YA books, adult books, children’s books, nonfiction books, cookbooks, manga . . . you can donate hardcover or softcover books. The only request is that the books be in reasonably good condition (readable, more or less decent, used is fine). Textbooks and reference books cannot be donated. That’s the only restriction.

STEP TWO: DONATING THE BOOKS

You have two options when it comes to donating the books: you can either donate locally, or you can donate to the Delta. When you donate to the Delta, the books are worth more points, but donating locally is excellent as well.

If you want to donate to the Delta, send the books to:

Delta Center for Culture and Learning
Delta State University
attn. Luther Brown
1417 Maple St.
Cleveland, MS 38733

Note: if you are mailing books in the United States, you can ask for something called Media Mail at the post office. This is WAY CHEAP. You’d be amazed at how many books you can mail for not much money.

If you want to donate locally, all you need to do is take them to any local charity. The Accio Books F.A.Q. page has a number of suggestions for places that accept books! (Very important: books donated to places like Goodwill and the Salvation Army do not count for points.)

ALSO, you may have a local HPA chapter. They can HELP YOU!

STEP THREE: TALLY AND REGISTER THOSE POINTS (CRITICAL!)

Before you donate the books, COUNT THEM. Here is how the point system works:

5 points: for any book donated to a local organization

10 points: for any book donated to the Mississippi Delta

15 points: for any Harry Potter books donated to the Mississippi Delta (because this IS a Harry Potter-based charity organization)

Okay . . . now add it up. Got the number? Good. Go to this page. As you will see, the form is SUPER SIMPLE and it takes about FIVE SECONDS to register the points. For me, the critical part of the page is the little drop-down menu where you sort yourself.

Now, I am the Head of Ravenclaw. It is my HOPE that you will put these points into Ravenclaw. I ASK you to do this. However, if you feel strongly that you must contribute to another house, I WILL UNDERSTAND. I will just be a little sad, that’s all. Also, you need to give as a Ravenclaw in order to get THE PRIZES!

STEP FOUR: GIVE STUFF, GET STUFF

Not only is this a good thing to do, I am going to sweeten the deal. I am going to offer PRIZES. SWEET, SWEET PRIZES. And this isn’t a contest . . . if you give the books, you get the stuff. That’s it. My ONLY condition is that you donate in the name of Ravenclaw. If you donate in the name of another house, you have done a wonderful thing! But to get THESE PRIZES, you must donate as a Ravenclaw.

IF YOU DONATE 100 OR MORE BOOKS: I will send you a signed copy of one of my books. I know. 100:1. But trust me, you can find 100 books.

IF YOU DONATE 250 OR MORE BOOKS: I will send you, as soon as it is available, one of the RARE galley copies of The Last Little Blue Envelope, the sequel to 13 Little Blue Envelopes.

IF YOU DONATE 500 OR MORE BOOKS: I will PUT YOUR NAME in the acknowledgements of The Last Little Blue Envelope (and send you a galley, of course).

GRAND PRIZE . . . IF YOU DONATE 1000 OR MORE BOOKS (which someone in Slytherin HAS DONE): I will NAME A CHARACTER AFTER YOU in my NEW PARANORMAL CRIME SERIES, COMING FALL 2011!

But I’ll only know you donated if you come here and you leave your totals in the comments. You have until March 31st to do this. (This entire project is based on the honor code, so I am trusting you will be telling the truth. But if you can send a photo, THAT IS EVEN BETTER. For the GRAND PRIZE, I will need photo evidence.)

I will do a full post of names, with photos, showing the world your accomplishments!

TO PUMP THINGS UP, I am doing a livestream show TONIGHT (March 19th) with fellow Ravenclaw Charlie McDonnell (charlieissocoollike) and a SPECIAL MYSTERY GUEST! That’s at 8pm UK time, 4pm Eastern Standard Time.

OKAY! Get going!

  1. Melissa Says:

Maureen, this is a great cause to help out and a great contest you are having here! I know that I have a lot of books that I can definitely give away. Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Dayse Dantas Says:

Does it count if I donate books for charities of my own country (that aren’t listed on the HPA list)?

  3. Maureen Says:

    ABSOLUTELY.

  4. Emily Says:

Sooo now I’m pretty much on a mission. *hunts for books.*

  5. katie Says:

What if the ms delta IS locally?

  6. Maya Says:

That’s a good idea. I have a ton of books I don’t need but I don’t know how I’d ship them out to the Delta; I have no money to pay for shipping from Canada.

  7. Brittany Landgrebe Says:

OH GREAT. You DO realize, now I’m going to have to flip my priorities? You see, I HAVE a thousand books (no, seriously. Ok some are reference but STILL). There is a PROBLEM, however, in that I have to CATCH UP on a LOT of reading. FOR YOU, though, I will take a pause in my writing to GET INTO YOUR BOOK. I consider all this reading RESEARCH. Plus it’d be really cool (read: obnoxious) to be all “Oh, you read that book by MJ? Yeah, that character Brittany? THAT’S ME.”

BTW, will the character have a TOUCH of our PERSONALITY?

Oh, god. The Ninja isn’t gonna be happy about all the extra books I need to hunt down. And then, you know, the REPLACEMENTS for my library once I’m done.

DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU’VE DONE?

You’re making book-less people AND the publishing industry HAPPY. I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD DO SUCH A… oh WAIT. That’s a GOOD thing.

    YAY!

    ^_^

  8. Emily Says:

I have a similar problem Maya! But local charities may be a good alternative for you. That’s what I’m looking into here in the UK at the moment! :)

  9. Maureen Says:

If the Delta is local for you, it counts. You just need to send them to that address.

  10. Maureen Says:

Donating locally is awesome. We get less points, but that is okay. It still counts toward THE PRIZES.

  11. Meg Says:

Thanks to an excellent Amazon gift card I’ve been hoarding which I won from Swagbucks.com, some great remainder books on sale, and some buy-3-get-1-free promos on Amazon I now have my first batch of 100 books on their way to the Delta (including 4 copies of Girl At Sea!)! :)

I’ve been working on collecting books locally from friends to ship via media mail & will probably have them ready to go within the week. I will post totals here with photo links…in the meantime I’ll go update the points page to reflect my first Ravenclaw submission!

  12. Vanessa Says:

Great post! Stay true to your houses though, and donate in the name of your own loyal founder, and do not sway based on materialism! :)

  13. Jennifer Says:

My mom has millions (ok, maybe not millions but lots) of romance novels. Do you think those would count?

  14. Jennifer Says:

Do the books have to received by March 31 or just mailed? I thought Media Mail was super slow…
    Good luck!

  15. Rachel Says:

I’m feverishly hunting for books now! I hate to give away books, but I know that I have a lot that I’ll never read again. And it IS for a good cause, so I guess I can…

This is good motivation for me to do something positive with the books I don’t use :)

  16. Nicole Says:

I think Ravenclaw won this contest last year and we’re all out of books to give which is why we’re in last place haha. Sad, but I know it’s true for me.

  17. Maya Says:

I found out my local Women’s Shelter needs donations do that’s where my books are going.

  18. Elle Says:

MJ, do you think it’s odd of me to donate books that are signed/personalized to me that I no longer want? Would the person who receives the book wonder why my name is in it? *dilemma*

  19. Elle Says:

Similarly, do places take donations of ARCs? Because if they do my donation pile might double. xD

  20. Tenley Nadine Says:

*scrambles around to find books* *trips over giant pile of books*

I’m so glad your the Ravenclaw head of house because now I won’t feel guilty donating to house I don’t belong to. Makes life so much easier… not really, but whatever.

    *runs around looking for books*

  21. Maureen Says:

I think donating signed/personalized books is okay.

  22. Maureen Says:

A women’s shelter! That is an EXCELLENT place to give books! EXCELLENT!

  23. Maureen Says:

The books just have to be mailed by the 31st.

  24. Alida Says:

Are galleys okay? I went to ALA in Chicago last year, and got several galleys that I won’t ever read again.

During my book raid, I actually found a stack of old books I’d put in my closet. It’s like I’d hidden them from myself so I wouldn’t donate them until this came up.

  25. Maureen Says:

    Galleys are a-ok!

  26. Tali Says:

I JUST sent two huge boxes of books to Goodwill. I’m talking like, last week. >.<
I'll see what I can rustle up with some friends.

  27. Taylor Says:

I have no chance of winning anything (my friends are living on the other side of America and it’s a bit late to make demands out of them) but I will donate as much as I can. I’m running to the library right now, and with my own I’m sure I can compile at least a few dozen books. If it didn’t snow an ENTIRE FOOT last night there might be a few garage sales this weekend I could devote my few dollars to, but no, no.

In any case, I will do my best for RAVENCLAW. *runs screaming through empty, icy streets*

  28. Maya Says:

    A question:
If you donate 250 + do you still get the 100 book prize? Same as if you donate 500, do you get the 250 & the 100 book prize? I’m just curious, I doubt I’d be able to reach more than 250, but I’ve already got 151 to go. :)

  29. Zik Says:

Umm, do the prizes add up. Like with a thousand books, does a character get named after you, you get a free galley copy and it gets signed, but also an acknowledgment to you? By you I mean me.

  30. Tiffany Says:

I’ve been collecting books since accio books started and I have about 100+ so far. For now, I will register 100 of those for that signed book and save the rest to apply towards the grand prize!

i will be posting my progress here: http://oneandonlytiffy.livejournal.com/
please nag me if I fall behind!

  31. Amanda Please Says:

Not only am I rounding up the books I haven’t yet donated (since I tend to give a lot to my local used bookstore) I am rallying a few of my friends as well. Though I’m debating which house I will donate with…on one hand I’m a proud Slytherin but on the other I want to support you, Maureen. Hmmm.

  32. Nushi Says:

I wish I could enter this but (a) I have run out of books and (b) I am a loyal Gryffindor. But Maureen, you are excellent at motivation.

  33. Sofia Says:

I am part of a project at the local school that is donating 2000 books to create two schools in Swaziland. The project is called The African Library Project (you can check their website, they are REALLY awesome!). Obviously they aren’t all my books but I have donated many titles and helped sort and pack the books that were donated. Does this count or do I just count the titles i have donated?

  34. Maya Says:

Okay, so I have these old magazines. They’re not like magazines, they’re called shounen jump, they’re pretty thick and they are like serialized manga. Can I donate them?

  35. Rachel Says:

    Hi,
I just read this and it’s FABULOUS. I am FULLY going to find a thousand books to donate and take pictures!

  36. Meg Says:

Thanks to an excellent Amazon gift card, some great remainder books on sale, and some buy-3-get-1-free promos on Amazon I now have my first batch of 100 books on their way to the Delta (including 4 copies of Girl At Sea!)! :)

I’ve been working on collecting books locally from friends to ship via media mail & will probably have them ready to go within the week. I will post totals here with photo links…in the meantime I’ll go update the points page to reflect my first Ravenclaw submission!

  37. Sarah Says:

when entering the points do we just enter them as we send them in or wait til we’re done sending all the books we can in and then enter the number?

i don’t even know if that makes any sense….

  38. Jennifer Says:

I am on the hunt for AT LEAST 500 hundred books.

I would literally die if my name was printed in your acknowledgements.

Thanks for giving me the extra push to involve myself in Accio Books. It also feels quite freeing to get rid of old books. They are just sitting in my room collecting dust. I would much rather them benefit someone else :)

    Jennifer

  39. Megan Says:

Am now officially on a mission. I live in an itty-bitty Boston apartment stuffed to the gills with books. As much as it gives me chest pains, and reignites childhood separation anxieties, some of these books must go. And I know just where they’re going… Even if I cry at the post office…

  40. blissfullydazed Says:

Let the hunt for books BEGIN!!! I’m all over this now…

By the way, a suggestion for where to find books: the dollar/99 cents store! I’ve actually been able to find some really good books there in the past. Not always just lousy rejects, but leftover good ones the regular stores had to get rid of. Or books/editions that are no longer being published. It’s an idea, anyway!

SO GLAD YOUR BLOG IS BACK, MAUREEN!!!!! :D

  41. Awhina Says:

I have had a box with around 70+ books sitting in it waiting for me to get rid of. Even though I have no intention of re-reading them the thought of letting go of them makes me sad. Giving them away all at once will solve that.

I live in New Zealand but I will see if I can find an eligable place for donation.

  42. Jessie Says:

Just went through my house and to a few garage sales and am already up to 602 books in less than 24 hours! I’ve got a friend who is bringing more tonight and a few who will try to help me out at school. I can’t wait to ship all these books over! I just hope shipping won’t be too bad…

  43. Nicki Says:

I’m donating 50 straight to the Delta and then the other 203 to a local women’s shelter. I don’t have a digital camera or anything, so should I send you a picture in the mail? I mean, would you ever get it, haha, cause I’m sure you get loads of fan mail. :D

  44. Julia Jorgenson Says:

I’ve collected 154 books from my bookshelf to donate (and I’m driving through Mississippi next week, coincidentally). I’m also getting my friends and family to donate. I’m going for 1000. Also, is it legal to use my school’s Key Club to get more donations? I’m a member and service is what we do.

  45. cristiline Says:

D: I donated over 200 books during the first Accio Books, so now I’m all out! I guess I’ll have to harass my friends and get them to give me some books. I wish this were during the summer, though, so we could get books at garage sales. Anyway, I’ll do my best!

  46. Maureen Says:

It’s definitely LEGAL to use Key Club!

  47. Maya Says:

My friend Nicole and I are teaming up in order to get books. Is that okay or do we have to get books seperately?

  48. Dawn Says:

Thanks for sharing this, Maureen! We’re on it…

    Go Ravenclaw!!

  49. Luz and Maria Says:

My sister and I share our books if we collected the books together do we both get acknowledged? (Our goal is 500 books :) )

  50. Elizabeth Says:

If I donated 250 books, would I get a signed book and the galley for the Last Little Blue Envelope? A signed copy of the Last Little Blue Envelope? Just curious because I’d like to donate 250 books, but I’d prefer a signed book over a galley. Thank you!

  51. Luz and Maria Says:

    MAUREEN!!!!!!!!!!

Me and my sister have collected 510 books in the name of Ravenclaw and Accio Books and we are mailing them to Delta this week!!!!

Check out our twitpic of the books before we box them up :) http://twitpic.com/1a3ert

Luz and Maria *hurries to find boxes for books*

  52. Dashiell Says:

I don’t think I have a thousand books. I wish. Having a character with my name would be awesome. Regardless, I try to donate as much as I can. Thanks for letting me know about this great event Maureen.

  53. Maya T Says:

As of this moment, I’ve donated 162 books. They’re all in boxes waiting to head out to their destination, I’m on the hunt for more. Too bad Accio Books isn’t during the summer, or I’d be able to get them from garage sales.

    Anyways, current number is 162.
    (:

  54. Kendra Says:

Technically, some of my books are being donated by my uncle for me, but would that count? I told him about Accio Books! and he said he’d participate and tell me the number of books he donated. He lives sixteen hours away, so I can get a picture. Will these books still count towards my 100?

  55. Maureen Says:

That counts if you can get the picture. Make sure to register the points!

  56. Sarah Says:

According to the Chapter list on HP alliance there is a Swedish one, but I cannot find it on the long list. Is there any way you can figure out if there is?

  57. Marie Says:

I just donated over 100 books to a local cause (senior citizen library, alright!), and about 40 more I sent to the Delta (they were tiny romance books, so I could fit a lot into the box!)

How do I get my signed book from you? *is curious*

  58. Maureen Says:

I will be going through all of these on April 1 and explaining the procedures!

  59. Nicki Says:

I donated 253 books! I have way too many books. Well, I did anyway.

  60. Nicole Says:

Just donated 107 of my childhood books. We’re moving and trying to downsize right now so donating the books helped. :)

  61. Carissa Says:

I have donated 584 books so far!! im hoping to get at least 100 more from coworkers.

  62. Elizabeth Says:

I just donated 161 books to a local DC charity! I hope to receive a book- I’d like to give it to a friend whose birthday is coming up. Thanks for the generous prizes!

  64. Heather Says:

Will I still get a prize if I live in Canada?

  65. Casie Says:

I donated 102 books to the Delta for Ravenclaw House. I can haz signed MJ book? I have a picture of the books I sent that I can tweet you if you need the evidence :D

  66. Faythe Says:

Just mailed 14 boxes containing 356 books. I think the guy at the post office hates me. http://www.twitpic.com/1ai51j

  67. devin Says:

117 more books for Ravenclaw [donated locally because I live in Canada & shipping would be outrageous, but still].
    http://twitpic.com/1a4c8d

  68. Alice Says:

Whew! 129 and I have to say I’m exhausted. 104 went to the children’s home. I was planning on giving to the children’s hospital but they can’t take used books because of infection etc, so just a bit of advice for anyone else thinking of doing that, check first.

    There they are: http://de.tinypic.com/r/n3t9bm/5

Thennnn another 25 to the old folk’s home my mum works at: http://de.tinypic.com/r/24c9yqp/5

So yeah! Nice work guys x

  69. Marcus Says:

I have just finished donating 615 books to local schools and my local library. They were all very happy and grateful plus I now have a photo on the library donation wall :) I have added all my points to Ravenclaw so I hope it helps

  70. Hannah Says:

My local library gave me 320 books! http://twitpic.com/1aubwa
That makes my total so far 428!

  71. Rachel Says:

Is it okay if we team up as a group? My friend and I are collecting books. Can we still win prizes?

  72. Kathleen Says:

I just donated 130 books for ravenclaw locally , since I live in Canada and shipping would cost quite a bit .

  73. Sarah Says:

My school randomly had a book sale today so I got the last books I needed to make 100! Last year I collected 80 books from my school but unfortunately they were too late to make Accio Books so they went toward helping Ravenclaw win this year! Those 80 were donated locally and 20 are going to be mailed to the Delta once I get home for Spring Break this weekend =)

  74. Dee Says:

Hi Maureen! My friends and I found out about Accio Books about a week ago. We are now scrambling to collect upwards of 500 books before Wednesday. So far, we have about 300! We’re getting local bookstores and libraries involved, and we’re wondering if it still counts towards the prizes if we work as a group rather than alone.
Also, we’re having some trouble contacting our local chapter of the HP Alliance. If anyone reading is affiliated with the Denver, Colorado chapter could you let me know?
    Thanks!

  75. Emily Says:

107 so far! Kindly helped by some friends and brought some from charity shops in my town.

Some are kids books I loved when I was little, which are going to a local primary school and the rest are going to a book drive for wings of the dawn.
That OK MJ? Picture evidence to come as soon as I can find the cable for my camera…

  76. Thea Says:

I wish I had known about this sooner… I just came back from March break, and don’t get to go home until Easter weekend, so I just miss the deadline.I have tons of books at home, but only a few at college.

  77. Laney Says:

105 books raised so far for Ravenclaw!

    http://twitpic.com/1b38aq

  78. Tenley Nadine Says:

Okay… after going through the shelves in my house, buying .25 cent books from my local library, and buying as many books from as many garage sales as I could find, I’ve collected 254 books.

I’m still looking for more garage sales, and if I get a chance (in the midst of writing three papers) this weekend I’ll go back to my library because I believe their book sale is still going on. But we’ll see.

  79. EJ Says:

Just got home from college for the weekend and collected 108 books from around the house, to be shipped tomorrow! Whew, I was afraid I wouldn’t be home to donate! Wish I was home longer to donate more..

  80. Rachel Says:

Together my friend and I collected 655 books! I donated 121 of those to Ravenclaw :D

    http://tinypic.com/r/n5rlsg/5

  81. Rachel Says:

926 books and 4 days to go! Friends, family and office have been amazingly generous. Will need a picture of the overflowing piles of books in my living room!
Have also discovered a wonderful local charity through this – the Children’s Book Bank which provides free books and literacy support to children in lower income families in Toronto.

  82. Jessie (DesperatelyMe) Says:

I just posted pics of my 1,058 books I am donating to the Mississippi Delta. They are at:

If you need a better picture as proof, let me know!

Okay, so I did count the books I swear. But I just forgot the number.
It was somewhere between 112 and 116, I am positive.
But I really don’t want to go back and count them again seeing as I still have homework I need to complete and a shower still to take.
But I did donate over 100, and I believe that is the vital part of the information.

  102. blissfullydazed Says:

Maureen! I’m back! And I am victorious: 253 books! I’m going to the post office tomorrow morning to see how much shipping to the Delta will cost (I’ll be sure to check out the Media Shipping thing), and depending on the price I’ll either send all the books or just some and then fill out the form accordingly.

    I is very happy. :)

    -Jacleen

  103. blissfullydazed Says:

  104. Tiffany Says:

I made a reply earlier about my donation of 100 books. Since then, I have accumulated 216 more books. So my final count is 316!
If it is possible, instead of the gallery picture; I would like three autographed books. My little sisters were a big help in collecting and organizing the books and I would like for them to each receive a copy :)

    254!

I was struggling at the end there. I had to dig deep in my basement to find the last few. I wanted to hit 254 because it’s a special number to me ^_^.

They all set to be dropped off at various libraries, elementary/high schools, and halfway-houses (depending on the genre–most are kidlit and YA). I don’t have a picture because I left them at home to be boxed up (home being my parents’ house).

Weee! All those points for Hufflepuff ^_^

  134. Alida Says:

I’m guessing you’ve already seen the video, because you retweeted the link, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBQSPL30rWs is my proof.

Max & I donated books locally to @seattlechildren’s last weekend (http://www.twitpic.com/1ca0mn) – another 110 children’s books! That brought our total to 257 books to benefit your effort this month.

We didn’t ship any to MS, but found that one of the charities you mentioned — the http://www.sunflowerfreedom.org/ — accepts donations via the web… so we donated a dollar for each book we donated locally. With corp matching (yeah!) that’s another $514 to help young people in the Mississippi Delta.

  141. Leah Says:

Done! 293 Books ready to go in the name of Ravenclaw! This has been fun :)

  144. Stephanie Pavluk Says:

Maureen Johnson. You are quite possibly the most AWESOME head of house EVER.
You have no idea how proud I was to declare I was a Ravenclaw this month.

Somehow, over the course of the Accio Books! campaign, we [as in, with the help from a few friends] managed to donate 301 books to the Largo Library this afternoon. I flipped out.
I’ve never been so proud of people in my life.

Seriously though, I’m so proud to say that all of those books were donated in the name of Ravenclaw. While we can unfortunately not pass Slytherin, we did pretty darn well!

I unfortunately didn’t get any pictures of the books, but there were about 4 boxes and like, 10 bags full to the brim.
    They were ecstatic.

Thank you so much for being such an awesome head of house, and for the constant support. We really love you <3
And for being supreme inspiration, all the time, especially to an aspiring novelist.

    :D

  145. Ellie Says:

I collected 257 books (with the help of my generous friends and family), and here is a video with them in it:
