TWO SECRETS REVEALED
Today, I have TWO secrets to reveal. I will waste no time in getting to them.
First: the COVER OFÂ THE LAST LITTLE BLUE ENVELOPE, coming April, 2011
Second: I am THRILLED to announce the title of the NEW BOOK and the NEW SERIES . . .
THE NAME OF THE STAR will be released in October, 2011! This is book one of the Shades of London series. I am hugely excited about these books. They have been a long time in the making. What are they about? I will tell you soon. But a quick Q&A . . .
Q: Are they paranormal?
A: YES!
Q: So, they’re about vampires?
A: No!
Q: What do you have against vampires?
A: Nothing. It’s just that not all things paranormal are about vampires.
Q: Okay. Werewolves, then.
A: Also, no.
Q: WHAT ELSE IS THERE?????
A: You will see.
Q: What KIND of a book is it?
A: A murder mystery/thriller.
Q: I heard Jack the Ripper is in it. Is this true?
A: YES.
If you have OTHER questions, leave them BELOW!
Tour information for BOTH BOOKS will also be forthcoming in early 2011. Basically, there will be A LOT OF ME AROUND in 2011. I hope you are ready.

Must resist urge to say “FIRST!!!!1″
October 28th, 2010 at 2:47 pm
Does Jack the Ripper prefer cake or pie?
Congratulations on the new series, I’m looking forward to it!
October 28th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
ummm, it’s.. it’s already 2010.
October 28th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
My first thought on the cover: OMG SHE HAS A HEAD!
October 28th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
I do not want to question your time tavel ability, but 2010 is almost over.
)
October 28th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
I am so excited about these two books! I’m a huge fan of yours!
October 28th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Noooo! Not Jack the Ripper! I am TERRIFIED of him! I had a bad reaction to it when I was younger. It was my first encounter with the idea of a serial killer, and I’ve never gotten over it. The whole of my vacation in Europe, I was certain that I would be killed by him. Someone really should have told me that he was long dead. Instead, they were all, “AND THEY NEVER CAUGHT HIM!!!” Sheesh. HOWEVER, I’m really looking forward to all of your new books and the touring and such!
October 28th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Does Jack the Ripper get hit by a fallen star?
The cover looks lovely =)
October 28th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
Yay! Looking forward to it. I do love a good paranormal murder mystery/thriller–and with Jack the Ripper, how could I resist?
Thanks for fixing the years in the post. I read: “THE NAME OF THE STAR will be released in October, 2010!” and got especially excited. It led me to believe you either meant 2011… or you had invented time travel. I was hoping it was the latter and you were going to share that third secret with us all.
Anyway, congrats!
October 28th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
YAY! I’m so excited for both books!
***and now for the questions. . .
1) How can WE get YOU to come to a certain city? What must we do? Beg? Plead? Bake cakes? Tap dance? WHAT?
2) Will TLLBE come out in hardback first?
3) Will the paranormal series be released one right after another, or are you going to write two, write another unrelated book, and leave us hanging? *coughnotthatyoudothatcough*
4) When will the final book of the Scarlett Martin trilogy be released?
5) Will you please put more chocolate in our jars– we’re DYIN’ over here!

Did you mean 2011 at the end of the post? Because I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but we’re in 2010 currently, at least I am.
October 28th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
I’m really looking forward to both of these books, and the rest of the Shades of London series. I can’t wait to read your take on the paranormal genre. I have a feeling it’s going to be incredibly awesome.
October 28th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
I think its rather obvious that ‘ole Jack prefered Cupcakes… I mean, he may be an evil killer, but I amagine himas a man of excellent taste in dessert.

YA. Paranormal. Jack the Ripper. Potential timeslippage. I am so there.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Ok you had me at Jack the Ripper.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
New covers! New titles! New series! Too much excitement for little me.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Not a huge fan of the cover, but it’s what inside that counts anyway, so I shall not fret.
And I can’t wait for the net series! Will you be touring England for either of these, by any chance (I’ll be studying abroad this spring.)
October 28th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
You have made me so happy lately! Last week you dedicated a book to me (and all jars), and now these announcements. Good stuff! *does happy dance*
October 28th, 2010 at 3:21 pm
I second the question about tour places. I realize you have little to no control over where you are allowed, but I would definitely come to an event if it were even halfway close…say the…Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi region? Is there some way we can contact your publisher for requests or is it all up for chance?
October 28th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
Love the Cover! I just wanna read it right now.
And the new series? Paranormal? Jack The Ripper? No-vanpires? I’m SO in it.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
A murder mystery involving Jack the Ripper (written by Maureen!!)?!?!?! I am SO there! *__*
So how about some more juicy tidbits? Will we be seeing any good, old-fashioned British occult and Faustian devil-summoning/contract-making?
(any demonic butlers, while we’re at it?)
Can’t wait!!
October 28th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Maureen, I am so excited for this! I’ve been a fan ever since I met you on the Tour de Nerdfighting in 2008, when you dug into your bag and GAVE me a copy of “Girl At Sea” because they weren’t selling it at the venue. I went on to read the rest of your books, and 13 Little Blue Envelopes was my clear favorite (with Devilish close behind). I did a lot of studying abroad when I was in college, and I loved reliving that feeling of crazy European adventure and discovery through the protagonist. I’m glad that the cover features a realistically pretty girl in a t-shirt daydreaming with a suitcase instead of, say, a partially-faceless girl flashing her midriff.
Shades of London sounds like it’s going to be a blend of the European adventure I loved in 13LBE and the strangeness-meets-realism I loved in Devilish. Let the countdown begin!
October 28th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
I have an unrelated question. When is the third Scarlett book coming out? I just finished Scarlett Fever and I need more!
Excited to read your new books too! Yay!
October 28th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Oh, look! It’s a girl on the cover of MJ’s book. SURPRISE!
Can we call it 2011: The Year of MJ? Or maybe it should be “The Year of Maureen.” People always think I’m talking about some other person when I say “MJ.” Something about the King of Pop? Meh.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
WOOO – new series – SUPER excited!
I quite like the cover, but I want to know what the almightly MJ thinks about it…?
October 28th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
The only thing that bothers me about the cover is that you can see the entirety of Ginny’s face. I’m used to only seeing fractions of your character’s appearances.
But that new series sounds SO COOL. “Shades of London”…*can’t wait*
October 28th, 2010 at 4:51 pm
Well, at least she has a head!
October 28th, 2010 at 5:06 pm
How do I tell your people that your presence is required in Calgary, Canada? Is there something I can DO?
October 28th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
EEEEEE! I love the cover, can’t wait to read the book. Though after Ginny being headless on the cover of the first book I am having trouble reconciling the fact that she is now posed a-la Suite Scarlett on the cover of this one…
*raises hand* I have questions!
1) Does you writing a book about London mean you might at some point sign/do an event/do more than lurk around the city tweeting criptically in London sometime for those of us who live here?
2) Will reading your books about London and Jack the Ripper make me even more scared for my safety when I go beyond the bounds of Zone 1?
3) If it’s not about Vampires or Werewolves it must be about Zombie Unicorns right? Ghosts?
October 28th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
Beautiful! I’d actually rather a cover without a face, so I can imagine on my own what characters look like, but it’s still a gorgeous cover.
The new series sounds really cool. Congratulations, Maureen!
Question: The cover says you’re a NYT bestselling author. Is that a new thing, or has my head just come out of the sand? Either way, congrats!
October 28th, 2010 at 10:49 pm
The minute I try to post this there’s a server error. Let’s see what I can remember:
I have to admit I was scared when I saw the cover. My screen makes it look so big and her eyes look straigh into your soul. Maybe that’s why they only give you headless girls.
Questions:
1. Female or Male MC? or some kind of paranormal mystery solving group (my childhood loves to haunt me.
2. Why “The Naming of the Star”
3. What paranormal goodness can we expect?
4. How is Jack the Ripper alive? Can we expect anyone else from the past?
5. What about Springheeled Jack?
@Elizabeth Kaylene Let it Snow was an NYT bestseller. I don’t know about the others.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:35 am
You had me at ‘Jack the Ripper’. I know far more about dear Jack than is decent for any girl of good breeding. (So, really, it’s kind of lucky that ‘good breeding’ doesn’t really factor into it with me.)
TLLBE cover looks great, too. (She has a face! And yet it matches the original nicely! What more could a girl want?) But really, have been completely distracted by the idea of the new series.
October 29th, 2010 at 10:30 am
YAY!!! I’m so excited about TLLBE and your new series (I’m hoping ARCs will be at BEA!).
As for your touring, if you come to the DC area, I will be happy. A lot of authors seem to go on tour but never come here. It’s the nation’s capital- how could you skip over it?!
October 29th, 2010 at 11:51 am
On both TLLBE and your new series *yea about all four books!* do the rights include audio and ebooks? Because I typically get all three formats as I am a huge geek (and then you get more royalties).
October 29th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
OMG, what is that thing on top of that poor girl’s shoulders!? some kind of abnormal growth? I’ve never seen anything like it, I’m so confused!
October 30th, 2010 at 2:30 pm
Oh my, I am SO excited! I can’t wait to read these two!
October 31st, 2010 at 1:49 am
Will you give me a signed copy? And has this new series been more difficult or easier to write than your previous books? By the way, the cover is gorgeous. If only we all had such flawless skin… but really, I LOVE it.
October 31st, 2010 at 5:13 am
YEES! Finally the wonderful awesome delicious news is announced
I really can’t wait for THE NAME OF THE STAR, considering that I just visited London over summer. Questions! I love questions. And answers.
Will NAME OF THE STAR be set in modern day London? Or the Jack the Ripper era?
October 31st, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Yay! Cannot wait for The Last Little Blue Envelope. SO EXCITED.
Congrats on The Name of the Star. Is it zombie-related?
November 1st, 2010 at 6:56 pm

November 6th, 2010 at 10:01 am
Extremely excited. I’ve loved all your books, but especially enjoyed Devilish. So now that you’re writing a series with fantastic/paranormal elements, I’m really beside myself. Look forward to reading the Shades of London series!
November 7th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
…Is that a… head…? :O
November 8th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
Oh. My. Gosh. You have a cover with EYES. Beautiful eyes!!

Your book was banned in the library? seriously?
what kind of country is that USA?
Honestly, that librarian was one tough cookie to defend your work. Did you send her/him a thank you note?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:23 am
I am eagerly awaiting The Last Little Blue Envelope. The first one is one of my favorite books ever. I also like the cover for its sequel; she has a head!
And that series sounds so good. I’m pretty much obsessed with Jack the Ripper.
I’m so excited to read both!
