HELP A DOG OUT

So, my friend Simon is running the London Marathon on April 22nd. Just FYI: Simon (and his wife Victoria) AIDED AND ABETTED ME in the writing of 13 Little Blue Envelopes. They sheltered me in their lovely house in Islington when I ended up in England on more or less NO NOTICE WHATSOEVER. I ended up putting their house into the book (except I messed it up—their house is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN AND LOVELY).

DO YOU LIKE THAT BOOK? Then you like Simon and Victoria!

Simon is SUPER SERIOUS about his running of marathons for charity. He has done multiple marathons as Elvis. Not just in a costume (the BEST costume) … but he is a very good actor and did the race AS ELVIS, talking to people and posing and gesturing for the ENTIRE 26.2 MILE RUN, in a wig and a gold lame suit.

HE IS HARDCORE.

I’m going to put a bit of his message for this year here:

I’m going to run all 26.2 miles of the London Marathon dressed as a dog. Marathon #4 is on April 22nd and I’d truly be grateful if you could visit my JustGiving page and put a bit of cash in the pot for either (or both!) of my two chosen charities.

They are: Guide Dogs (hence the dog outfit!) and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. I’ve got two separate pages for each charity and my aim is to raise over £500 for each. For the Guide Dogs this will provide full training for one visually impaired person and their dog, for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research this will provide two weeks worth of essential laboratory supplies used to conduct vital research to improve treatments.

I’ll ensure each charity gets the same amount at the end off my offline fund-raising post April.

I know these are tough economic times and truly value any and all donations. JustGiving accepts Credit/Debit cards and PayPal and for every £1 gift aided by you JustGiving ensures the charity receives £1.17p, so every penny really counts.

Look, Simon is awesome. Running a marathon dressed as a dog is awesome. And giving money for the support of guide dogs and leukemia and lymphoma research is awesome.

Everything about this is awesome.

I know you get a lot of appeals for a lot of things, but you would warm my COLD LITTLE HEART if you found it possible to give to this worthy cause. Either one. Both. Whatever. I’m giving now.

In case you think Simon is joking, this is his running outfit:

TO ANYONE WHO GIVES £50 OR MORE (or £25 to each), I will send you a SIGNED BOOK and CREEPY NOTE and SOME WEIRD THING I FOUND IN MY HOUSE. This is not a contest. ANYONE who gives £50 gets this.

IF YOU DO, email maureen@maureenjohnsonbooks.com with your name and address and how creepy you want the note.

I can check on the just giving page to verify, not that I don’t believe you, but just make sure to show the amount.

UPDATE:

Also, I will choose two RANDOM people, one from each page, who donate £5 or more. THEY WILL ALSO GET THE GIFTS. No need to notify me. I WILL FIND YOU.
