I do other stuff with my time aside from writing and reading and Tweeting. Not a lot, BUT I DO STUFF. I have decided to make a page just to share links about STUFF I'M INTO.
I'm the co-chair of the Lit Track of GeekyCon (formerly LeakyCon--same thing, new name). All year long we work on the programming aspects of the conference, and then, for ONE WILD WEEK, we descend on Florida. More about GeekyCon here. It's amazing. YOU SHOULD GO.
Through Geeky, I've become a part of and supporter of The Harry Potter Alliance, a fantastic charity that turns fans into heroes, and raises a ton of money for great work. (And not just money--they've built a few libraries along the way.) Find out more by clicking here.
I'm on the advisory board of 826 NYC, a fantastic organization that teaches writing and reading skills to children around the New York area. If you live in NYC and have never been to their storefront, The Superhero Supply Store, I URGE YOU TO GO!
I'm also on the writers' board of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which I love. I think it's an amazing way of getting into writing and learning how to see a project through. If you've ever thought about writing a novel but just couldn't quite push yourself to finish, I highly advise trying out NaNoWriMo!
I love to cook, and I DREAM OF WRITING A COOKBOOK SOMEDAY. Until such a time as I do that, I read LOTS OF COOKING SITES. Also, I am a vegetarian, so I like to read about cooking without meat (or reworking recipes without it).
Some sites I like a LOT:
- The Post Punk Kitchen
- The First Mess
- Dumbledore's Vegan Army
- Veggie Num Num
- Chocolate and Zucchini (French based site, in English and French)
- Serious Eats (great all around, also has dedicated vegetarian section)
- Smitten Kitchen
- BBC Food (with easy vegetarian recipe search)
- Finding Vegan (like a Pinterest of food, PRETTY PICTURES!)
- Veg Space
- Sprouted Kitchen
- Meatless Monday guide from the Humane Society
