The Box in the Woods, the new stand-alone Stevie Bell mystery, will be out on June 15th! And I will be doing appearances!
First, some answers to questions you MAY NOT HAVE ASKED but if you WERE GOING TO ASK QUESTIONS these would LIKELY BE THE QUESTIONS.
YOU: What is The Box in the Woods about?
ME: Thank you for asking.
YOU: I didn’t.
ME: Well, in answer to your question…
YOU: I…
ME: *places silencing finger to your lips* The Box in the Woods takes place a few weeks after the events of Truly Devious. Stevie Bell, having had her 15 minutes of fame as a student detective, now has no case. She’s back at home for the summer, working the deli counter at a grocery store. One night, she gets a message from the owner of Camp Sunny Pines–formerly called Camp Wonder Falls–the site of a notorious and gruesome quadruple murder from 1978. Four camp counselors went into the woods and never came back. The grisly details have long been the stuff of legend, and there are multiple theories about what happened that night. The new owner of the camp where this took place wants to make a true crime show about it
, and wants to bring Stevie in to help solve it (and get some publicity). Stevie agrees, and she gets to take along several of her friends from Ellingham Academy. Now installed as camp counselors, the group look into what happened at the camp and the town of Barlow Corners. But these murders are not so far in the past, and the events of 1978 are not a closed book…
YOU: You can’t end with a ….
ME: Sure I can. You just did.
YOU: I was quoting you.
ME: *waves hand dismissively*
YOU: Okay. Well, do I have to have read Truly Devious to understand The Box in the Woods.
ME: *standing suddenly* NO!
YOU: *flinches*
ME: *sitting back down* It certainly won’t hurt. You’ll know the characters and all the backstories, but you don’t NEED to.
YOU: Should I?
ME: Up to you. Up to you.
YOU: And you said something about a tour? That’s what this post is about?
ME: I see you’ve been paying attention. Yes! I will be on a virtual tour
, because THESE STRANGE TIMES ARE NOT YET OVER. But instead of just doing three events about the book in general, I decided to do three THEMED CONVERSATIONS with different hosts, so you can attend a virtual event about the topic that most interests you.
YOU: Or more than one.
ME: Of course! You can come to all three!
YOU: What are the topics? Who are the hosts?
ME: In the first event, I’ll be talking true crime and podcasts with Gillian Pensavalle, co-host of True Crime Obsessed. In the second event, I’ll be talking Agatha Christie and all things classic mystery with Catherine Brobeck and Kemper Donovan of All About Agatha. In the third event, I’ll be discussing contemporary mysteries with Faridah Ábíké-Íyímídé, author of Ace of Spades. All of these events are sponsored by independent bookstores. And you can click on the links to get tickets and SIGNED BOOKS!
YOU: You can speak in links?
ME: Yes.
YOU: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
ME: I’ll be posting more info in the next few weeks about giveaways, prizes, and The Box in the Woods related secrets. SO BE AWARE. Now throw down the tour graphic and let’s smoke bomb out of here.
YOU: What?
ME: *poof*
YOU: *coughing* Oh God, why. Why the smoke bomb.
ME: VIRTUAL DRAMATIC EXIT!
